"Consciously provisional and 'under construction,' but at the same time also poetic and, to a certain extent, romantic." Bastione's work rejects identification with patterns and structures; almost nothing is defined and fixed. Using strategies that appear deliberately "random" and "creative" in an almost naive way, Bastione increasingly incorporates his motifs and materials in morally questionable ways and plays with the absurd and the grotesque. He uses recycled materials to this end, imbuing his works with an ambiguous yet representational meaning, deconstructing rather than re-presenting a concept.
